EPA Method 5035 -VOCs
Preservation of Soil Samples for Volatile Organic Analysis
Many state agencies are now directing companies to use SW-846 EPA Method 5035. The method’s principal purpose is to reduce the amount of disturbance when collecting solid/soil samples for the analysis of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). Ther are two options: (1) field preservation and the use of EnCore® Samplers and (2) preservation of soil samples for Volatile Organic analysis and the use of Terra Core™ Samplers and Vial Kits.
EnCore® Sampler
The EnCore® Sampler is a disposable, volumetric sampling device that was developed to assist field personnel in obtaining soil samples with minimal handling and maximum accuracy. The EnCore® Sampler is designed for one time use.
Terra Core™ Sampler and Vial Kits
The Terra Core™ sampling tool and the Vial Kits are assembled together. The Vial Kit allows for immediate extrusion from the Terra Core™ sampler into a variety of 40 ml vials (up to five slots) with Teflon stir bars as applicable, requested preweighed, preinoculated preservatives of Methanol (red closure), Sodium bi-sulfate (green closure), and for effervescent samples, the option of ASTM Type I Water (white closure).
Containers are labeled with specific preservation, identification and bar-coded stickers. Included in the kit is a 60cc bottle with Teflon closure liner for moisture determination and/or sceening. All glass containers are precleaned and certified under Protocol B Level 1. A Certificate of Analysis and protocol Certificate are included with each customized Terra Core™ Vial Kit. Terra Core™ kits are shrink-wrapped in single units and packaged in boxes of 3, 4, and 8.
