AFS’ Thinking Beyond event was back in 2021! In keeping with the recent All-Star game, we had an All-Star speaker lineup, discussing topics around the theme “Disruption: The Energy Transition, COVID, and Technology.” Additionally, the symposium was followed by the traditional game between the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies.

Tisha Schuller founded Adamantine Energy to provide thought leadership to future-proof energy businesses against rising social risk. Tisha consults private clients from Fortune 500 energy companies to non-profit environmental organizations in managing disruption, energy policy, business strategy, politics, and community engagement. She also serves as the Strategic Advisor for Stanford University’s Natural Gas Initiative. In 2017, Tisha chaired Stanford’s symposium to reduce energy poverty in the developing world using natural gas. Previously, Tisha served as President & CEO of the Colorado Oil & Gas Association and as Principal and Vice President with Tetra Tech, a national environmental consulting and engineering firm. She has a B.S. from Stanford University.
Tisha serves on many academic and non-profit boards including The Breakthrough Institute, The Energy for Growth Hub, The Denver Museum of Nature & Science Institute for Science & Policy Strategic Council, and she is a member of the National Petroleum Council, an advisory board to the U.S. Secretary of Energy under the Obama, Trump, and Biden administrations. Tisha’s book, Accidentally Adamant was published in 2018 and her latest release, The Gamechanger’s Playbook: How Oil & Gas Leaders Thrive in an Era of Continuous Disruption was published in October of 2020. Tisha authors a weekly series entitled Both of These Things Are True and hosts the Energy Thinks podcast.

As a licensed professional engineer with more than 22 years of energy experience, Jan Kulmann has successfully managed and executed projects and programs both nationally and internationally. Jan joined Whiting Petroleum in 2019 where today she is the Director of Well Construction. She is responsible for the capital budget and execution of drilling, completions, and production facilities engineering and construction. Jan’s career before joining Whiting also included the management of environmental, health, safety and regulatory programs as well as strategic technical initiatives related to emissions reduction efforts, electrical power, automation, process safety, and mechanical integrity.
Jan Kulmann was elected as the Mayor of Thornton, CO in 2019. Jan was first elected as a Ward 4 Councilmember in 2013, won re-election in 2017, and was the Mayor Pro-Tem from 2017-2019. As a representative of the City of Thornton, Jan also serves on the executive committee of the Metro Mayors Caucus, as the Vice Chair of the Rocky Flats Stewardship Council, as a board member of the Mile High Flood District, and as a member of the North I-25 Coalition.
Jan earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, along with a minor in music performance, from Louisiana State University and an MBA from Colorado State University. She has been married to her husband Dave since 2002 and together they have two teenage children.

Sarah Sandberg is the sustainability lead and senior director of commercial and corporate development for DCP Midstream, a Fortune 500 energy company. She drives DCP’s sustainability strategy and helps to oversee the company’s various joint ventures and M&A activity. Prior to her current role, Sarah led DCP’s investor relations, external and internal communications, crisis communications, public affairs and media relations, and community outreach and investment.
She previously served as the Chief Operating Officer for the Colorado Oil & Gas Association (COGA), and was responsible for COGA’s financial direction, day-to-day operations, board management, Energy Summit, events, programs, local regulatory engagement, outreach, and communication.
Born and raised in Baton Rouge, prior to COGA, Sandberg previously worked for GoAuto as the Marketing Director and a founding executive management team member. She also worked on communications and outreach within the Louisiana Governor’s Office, including assisting with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill response efforts and several hurricanes. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and her Masters of Business Administration through the Executive MBA program at University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business.
She is a co-founder of the Energy Leadership Institute, an American Red Cross Mile High Chapter board member and past chair of the associate board, past chair of the City Year Denver Associate Board, and a past chair of the Energy Generation (EnGen) Leadership Program. She is a 2013 graduate of EnGen and a 2018 graduate of Leadership Denver. She is an Oil & Gas Investor “40 under 40” honoree and has been named to the Denver Business Journal’s “Who’s Who in Energy” and “Top Women in Energy” lists multiple years. She also currently sits on the International Gas Union’s Global Marketing and Communication Committee.
She and her husband Kevin live with their two dogs, Gumbo and Beignet, in a 110-year-old church in Five Points, Denver. On the weekends she can be found hiking, reading, or in the pottery studio.

Anne Carto is the Director of Client Strategy and Sustainability for Adamantine Energy. In her role, she guides clients’ operational sustainability by developing strategies to mitigate the unique risks facing each oil and gas company. By developing and guiding companies’ environmental, social, and governance (ESG), decarbonization, and stakeholder navigation strategies, she supports Adamantine’s proactive and transformational work future-proofing companies against rising social risk. Her perspective is shaped by a deep understanding of oil and gas stakeholders and her Sustainability Excellence Associate certification from Green Business Certification Inc. Prior to Adamantine, Anne served as Community Outreach Manager for the Colorado Oil & Gas Association, Communications Coordinator for the Ohio Oil & Gas Association, and Director of Coalitions and New Media for Energy In Depth – the Ohio Project, a national energy education and outreach program. She received her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University, during which she worked in various levels of government and multiple political campaigns.
